Join us for a beautiful Fall hike in South Kitchener. The pandemic has highlighted the need for many of us to get outside more; and as such, we are including this event in this year’s festival to do just that.

This event will be held in-person outside. Max 15 participants. Register at the ticket link. Free.

Homer Watson Loop, Schneider Creek to Grand River - 6km

Hike Description

Schneider Creek to Grand River - Loop Hike 6km - Level/Difficulty: Level 1-2 Easy-moderate - mostly even terrain and level, 1 steep incline of 20 m elevation gain. Hike Pace: Moderate 3-4 km/hr

Register at ticket link. Max 15 hikers. 

Depart: 1pm

Meet at Huron Road Bridge (GPS coordinates: 43.400909, -80.435642), on Huron Road just past the Ken Seiling Museum for a loop hike (no car shuttle required). Park on Huron Road or Parking lot at Grand River Conservation Trail Head at 14 Mill Park Dr Kitchener. Bus Line 201 at Homer Watson Road/Doon Village Road. Bike access through Wilson Ave.

We will hike through Doon in South Kitchener, along Schneider Creek to the Grand River, following a collection of community trails, the Walter Bean Trail, and The Great Trail (TransCanada Trail). Come ready to hike, learn, and share some fun nature facts and history of the land. Fall is an exciting time of change and migration. 

Please bring a snack and water (1 L recommended).

Duration (hrs): Approx 3 hours.

Hiking boots or other similar sturdy footwear (walking shoes) is required. Dress for the weather (toque, scarf, layers, rain-gear as needed).

This hike takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishnaabe, and Haudenosaunee Peoples, on Haldimand Tract Treaty land. We honour and respect the people who have, and continue to, live on, hike on, and care for this land since time immemorial.

Covid19 Protocols: 

  • Proof of vaccination is required to attend. 

  • registration through the ticket link is mandatory (contact tracing)

  • a mask must be worn at all times when physical distancing is not manageable

  • stay home and join us online if you are sick, have been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 while you were not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), or have travelled in the last 14 days
