In 1993 after teenage Cameron is caught in the backseat of a car with the prom queen, she is sent away to a treatment centre in a remote area called God's Promise. While she is being subjected to questionable gay conversion therapies, she bonds with some fellow residents as they pretend to go along with the process while waiting to be released.

Sixteen-year-old Alison, a head full of dreams and a heart left in the past, loves to swim. What no one believes, is that Alison is able to venture into the afterlife by holding her breath, and swimming low under the waters. She then transcends into a world where she can be with her late mother Seraphin, but she can only stay for a span of a breath. Consequently, Hua, her loyal nanny, is worried for Alison’s well being. When Hua suffers a heart attack, Alison dives too deep for too long, searching for what she had never known to appreciate.

Kena and Ziki live very different lives in Nairobi. Kena works in her father's shop and awaits the start of nursing school, while Ziki passes the days hanging out with her friends and making up dance routines. Their paths cross when their fathers run against each other for seats in the County Assembly, and they find themselves drawn to each other. This film that goes beyond the glitz, glue guns and glamour of black drag to reveal a fun, fabulous and sometimes fearful place especially if you are an Indigenous man in a country where identity is constantly examined. – “And you thought PRISCILLA was the only Queen in the Desert!”

Over 5 steamy days 6 contestants will battle it out in fierce lip synching battles, photo shoots with crocodiles and challenges that will see each contestant stretch more than just their wardrobe choices. What does it take to be crowned the winner? We follow each contestant as they talk candidly about what brought them to this glittering stage – their triumphs and tragedies and what being Miss First Nation means for them and their communities.
